Our Approach

Maisha Meds started in 2017 by building point-of-sale software that community pharmacies needed. That turned out to be the foundation for something much larger.
Now, the same app providers use every day to run their businesses is also how we deliver health programs in malaria, HIV, vision, and more. It also generates data that reveals what works for patients and where gaps remain. This gives governments and global health partners a practical way to allocate resources effectively and work with the local providers people already rely on.

Business Software
— Digital tools providers want to use
We build software for drug shops, pharmacies, and clinics to run their businesses—from tracking inventory to making sales. We design our tech for providers who often rely on pen and paper, with a focus on private sector and low-connectivity settings.
Pharmacies and clinics use our platform daily—not because they're paid to, but because it helps them improve their businesses. A recent analysis showed that pharmacies using our point-of-sale software increased revenues by 24% on average in the first year, and 30% by year two. With full-time operations in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, and Tanzania, we maintain a presence and build trust in the communities we work in.

Health Programs
— Affordable, high-quality care—backed by research
Our pharmacy software also delivers patient-focused programs across different health areas. When a provider participates, they receive quality-assured products through our supply chains, plus reimbursements for following clinical best practices—for example, testing before treating for malaria.
In exchange, patients get care at set prices they can afford. These price points—and their effect on patient and provider decisions—have been validated through randomized controlled trials by leading health economists. We tie every payment to confirmed patient care—because on the backend, we've built proprietary systems for auditing and claims management that verify every test and treatment delivered at the last mile.

Data Insights
— Real-time data for better decision-making
Our software supported over 25 million patient visits in 2025. Every sale generates a real-time, geotagged data point—creating a rare window into Africa's private health sector. This reveals patterns in patient care, medicine access, and pricing that are often invisible in public sector data alone.
Pharmacies and clinics always maintain ownership of their own data, which we treat with the highest privacy and security standards. At the same time, our best-in-class data systems can anonymize and aggregate data into a system-wide picture of what's happening across the health system, without ever exposing individual records. These insights help governments, funders, and researchers make evidence-based decisions, inform international guidelines, and target resources where they're needed most.
